China's top 500 enterprise list was published on September 5, 2009 jointly by China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) and China Enterprise Directors Association (CEDA), which ranked COFCO at the 19th.
The list was produced by CEC following international practice according to sales revenue or operating income on the financial year basis. Enterprises apply to be part of it and a third party confirms.
As CEC statistics show, the total net profit of China's top 500 enterprises amounted to USD 170.6 billion (USD 1 = RMB 7.0696) which reduced by 12.4% compared with last year, taking the interest rate fluctuation into account. Though, such performace was evidently better than US top 500 enterprises, said Professor Miao Rong at CEC's research department.
