A new milling season for COFCO Tunhe Sugar companies has started—materials purchasing started on September 15 and production began on the 20th. It is estimated that Tunhe will purchase 3.5 million tons of sugar beets through 2007-2008 harvest season, which is expected to produce 420 thousand tons of sugar.
The year 2007 has seen great harvest in sugar producing zones where Tunhe companies are located, which means abundant materials for sugar production. Subsidiaries and companies under Tunhe have been fully prepared for the new milling season. Meanwhile, Tunhe also invested hundreds of millions of RMB in technology improvement, energy conservation, emission reduction and environmental treatment during the new milling season in order to build it into a new type of enterprise that consumes lessresources at lower environmental cost and produces more economic benefits. COFCO Tunhe is the largest sugar beets producer in China. It owns over 27 thousand hectare of high-yield and high-quality sugar beets bases in Xinjiang and Shanxi with an annual production volume of 500 thousand tons. Its products such as white sugar and soft sugar have won good reputation and loyal consumers. So far Tunhe has set up long-term cooperation with well-known companies including Coca-cola, Kraft, Yili, and Mengniu.
