COFCO completed the first phase of its fully integrated meat base project in Dongtai ,Jiangsu Province on June 12, 2010.
Local government officials, President of China Energy Saving and Environmental Protection Group and Vice President of China Division of Yum! Brands Inc. attended the ceremony and gave speeches.
The first phase of the Dongtai project has the annual farming capacity of 500,000 hogs. The whole project will be completed by the end of this year.
Mr. Patrick Yu, COFCO President, is very optimistic about the outlook of the project. The meat value chain is integral to COFCO’s full integration strategy. COFCO has picked up speed in capacity distribution and project construction. It is projected to take three to five years to establish the fully integrated value chain consisting of feed, farming, slaughter, processing and cold chain logistics. The Dongtai project is expected to serve local rural areas and make contribution to local economy.
